Nine riders and nine reserves chosen following the Selection Event at Sepang

The next generation of motorcycle racing talent in Asia is ready to take another step towards the world stage! Following the 2027 Idemitsu Moto4 Asia Cup Selection Event at Sepang International Kart Circuit in Malaysia, nine young riders have been selected to join next season’s grid, with a further nine named as reserves.

The Selection Event took place across two days, with administrative checks on Tuesday 27 October followed by on-track evaluations on Wednesday 28 October.

Under sunny skies and in favourable conditions throughout the day, the young hopefuls had the opportunity to demonstrate their abilities in front of an expert Selection Committee, including respected MotoGP figure Alberto Puig.

With 88 riders from 17 countries and territories invited to the event, the task of identifying the next generation of talent was far from straightforward. The Selection Committee evaluated the riders’ performances and potential, looking for those with the qualities needed to progress on the Road to MotoGP.

The nine selected riders represent seven countries and territories: Indonesia, Thailand, Qatar, China, Chinese Taipei, Vietnam and Japan, underlining the international reach of the Idemitsu Moto4 Asia Cup and its role in developing young racing talent across the region.

Several selected riders already have impressive credentials from the FIM MotoMini World Series, including China’s Shengbo Sun, who claimed the 190cc World Final title in 2025.

Other riders with World Final experience include selected riders Clevan Octavianus (Indonesia) and Ngo Nguyen Viet Tuan (Vietnam), alongside reserves Airel Marzuki (Malaysia), Shanxu Liu (China) and Kensei Matsudaira (USA).

The nine selected riders will now have the opportunity to develop their skills and gain valuable experience in the 2027 Idemitsu Moto4 Asia Cup, taking another important step towards their ambition of competing on the world stage.

Congratulations to all those selected, and thank you to every rider who took part in the Selection Event, along with their families and supporters, for their commitment and determination throughout the process.
